Twisha Sharma's MIL, Giribala Can't Be Sent To Prison? Potential Risks From Immates Spark Concern

The untimely passing of model and actress, Twisha Sharma has been generated immense buzz since she was found deceased on May 12, 2026, in her marital home in Bhopal. The reason for her death was reported as suicide, but was contested by the bereaved family. They alleged that severe dowry harassment, physical and mental torment by Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh pushed her to take the extreme step. Both the accused are currently being investigated by CBI, following which they might be jailed. However, latest update suggests certain concern regarding Giribala’s detention.

Why Giribala Singh might not be sent to state prison?

Giribala Singh is a retired Bhopal district court judge. During her lengthy career as a judicial officer, she presided over several serious criminal cases and sent numerous individuals behind bars. After her five-day police remand ended, a special CBI court in Bhopal ordered that she and her son, Samarth Singh, be sent to judicial custody. However, sending her to a state prison might be a bit of an issue. The reason is that the same prison also features female inmates, convicts, and accused individuals, whom she personally sentenced or denied bail.

A major concern is the individuals linked to the high-profile Vyapam scam, whose case was also presided by Giribala. Prison administration officials acknowledged that sending a former high-ranking judicial officer inside a regular barrack presents certain vulnerabilities. A source familiar with prison procedures told media houses that a former judge like Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law, Giribala is not usually treated like ordinary accused, because of the “security challenge” involved in such cases. Media outlets like NDTV quoted the source as saying:

“Ordinarily, an accused is sent to jail and treated like any other inmate. But a former judge presents a completely different security challenge.”

A hanging dummy was used to investigate Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh

The investigation of Twisha Sharma’s mysterious death has been going on in full phase. Latest update by NDTV suggests that the CBI sent the deceased’s husband, Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, to their house. The accused were not released but were sent there for a dummy test, which served as a crucial element of Twisha Sharma’s death case. For the test, they used an 80 kg hanging dummy to recreate the scene of Twisha’s death and verify the statements made by Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala.

According to Samarth’s previous statement, he was the one who found Twisha hanging with a belt around her neck. He claimed to have brought down Twisha’s body, and Giribala allegedly untied the knot around her neck. The entire narrative lacked an alibi and thus required verification using the hanging dummy method. The dummy with a similar weight to Twisha was hung using a belt at the site of the alleged suicide, and Samarth was asked to re-enact discovering his late wife’s alleged suicide and do everything step by step the same way he claimed to have done when he found Twisha hanging.

Samarth Singh’s mother was also asked to do her part, i.e., untying the knot. Besides checking the authenticity of his and Giribala’s statements, the strength of the object (belt) used by Twisha to allegedly kill herself was checked. Giribala was arrested on May 28, 2026, after her anticipatory bail was cancelled by the Madhya Pradesh court, and the relief granted by a Bhopal sessions court was set aside a day earlier. Samarth allegedly surrendered himself after disappearing for 10 days. The court had sent both Giribala and Samarth into CBI custody till June 2, 2026, and they are now to be sent to judicial custody.
