
The Malayalam film industry is currently mourning the sudden death of much loved and respected actor, Salim Kumar. For the unversed, he passed away on June 6, 2026, at the age of 56, after being admitted in the Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam. Reportedly, he was on ventilator support when he suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his death. His demise has left everyone in shock. Amid that, his last Instagram post has surfaced online.
Salim Kumar’s last Instagram post is more than a year old
Salim Kumar’s unexpected death has brought immense attention towards the actor’s last Instagram post. Well, the last post was shared in April 2025. It is a candid photo of the much-respected actor, from a public event. In the photo, he seems to be sitting on a chair, wearing a blue-black coloured shirt.

Now that the actor has passed away, multiple fans have filled the comment section with blessings and condolences for the actor and his family. Some users also expressed their shock at the heartbreaking incident. One user commented, “Just heard the news.” Another user wrote, “Gone but never forgotten.” A third user penned, “The person who made us all laugh, cry, and helped many stay strong. We will all miss you.” A fourth user shared, “King is always king.” A user also commented, “God bless his wife and family. My heartfelt condolences.”

Salim Kumar was dealing with chronic diseases before his death
While Salim Kumar was best-known for making his audience laugh, the actor was dealing with a lot of personal issues in his life. One of the main things was his health. If reports are to be believed, Salim Kumar had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic kidney disease on maintenance haemodialysis and coronary artery disease. Reportedly, he had even undergone a liver transplant. After his tragic death, the hospital shared their official statement, which said:
“He was initiated on ventilator support, antibiotics, dialysis and other life-saving measures. During the hospital stay, he suffered a cardiac arrest and, despite maximum possible resuscitative measures, could not be revived.”

Salim Kumar’s funeral is done
On June 7, 2026, at around 3pm, Salim Kumar’s funeral was held at his home, Laughing Villa in Chittattukara, according to a report by The Hindu. Thousands of people, including family, friends, fans, politicians and more had gathered to say goodbye to the Malayalam actor, Salim Kumar. Reportedly, the funeral pyre was lit by Salim Kumar’s sons, Chanthu and Aromal.

Politicians pay tribute to Salim Kumar
Salim Kumar’s demise has left not just the film industry in shock, but also a few politicians. In the past few hours, multiple political figures like Kerala Chief Minister, Ernakulam district collector, Union Minister and actor, Suresh Gopi, Rahul Gandhi and more took to their social media accounts to pay heartfelt tributes to the actor. Later, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi also took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to pen a heartfelt note. For those who missed it, Modi’s note can be read as:
“Deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor Shri Salim Kumar Ji. Over the course of a distinguished career, he made a mark with his versatility and memorable performances across a wide range of roles. My thoughts are with his family and countless admirers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
