Nissan India today on May 4 has launched a retrofit CNG kit for its compact MPV ‘Gravite’. Its starting price is Rs 82,999. Customers can go to any official Nissan dealership and get it installed in their car.

The company claims that this kit is approved by ICAT (International Center for Automotive Technology). It has been developed by Motogen. The company is also giving a third-party warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh kilometers on the parts of this kit.

The ex-showroom price of Nissan Gravit ranges between Rs 5.65 lakh to Rs 8.93 lakh.

Two cylinders of 25 liters each, boot space will not be available

The biggest feature of the Gravity CNG kit is its ‘twin tank’ setup. It has been provided with two CNG tanks of 25-25 litres, which are placed one above the other (vertically). However, due to both the tanks, the boot space of the car has been completely destroyed, but its 7-seater capacity will remain intact. This is the only car in the country which is offering twin CNG tanks with 7 seats.

How different from Renault Triber CNG?

It is worth noting that this CNG kit of Nissan Gravit is different from Renault’s upcoming Triber CNG. In the new model of Triber, the company has changed the platform and fitted the cylinder in the lower part (underbody) of the vehicle. Whereas the old architecture has been used in Gravit, in which the cylinders are kept in the boot space.

Performance: 1.0 liter engine, CNG option with manual transmission

Nissan Gravit has a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which generates 72hp power and 96Nm torque. Currently, this CNG kit is available only for variants with 5-speed manual transmission. In this, a CNG nozzle (fuel-filling point) is provided just below the petrol filling point. At present this facility has been started in 60 cities of 16 states.

  • Manual Variant: It has a 5-speed gearbox and a claimed mileage of 19.3 kmpl in petrol.
  • AMT Variant: There is a 5-speed automatic gearbox and a claimed mileage of 19.6 kmpl.

Exterior: Triber-like look, but with a modern touch

The exterior design of the Gravitas is largely similar to the Triber, but Nissan has made several ‘cosmetic’ changes to it. The front of the car has a new honeycomb pattern grille and new signature DRLs in the headlights. Its bumper has been redesigned.

It has C-shaped silver finished parts. To give the car a distinct identity, ‘GRAVITE’ is written in big letters on its bonnet and tailgate. Customers can buy it in five colors – Forest Green, Onyx Black, Blade Silver, Snow White and Metallic Grey.

Interior and seating: Seats 7 people

5+2 seating configuration is available inside the car. The layout of the dashboard is simple. It has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital display for the driver.

The color scheme and trims of the interior are different from the Triber, making it feel fresh inside. It also has facilities like wireless charging pad and cooled glove box.

Features: 6 airbags and cruise control for safety

Nissan has given a long list of features in it. The top models come with features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start/stop, automatic LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a tire pressure monitoring system. For safety, it has been provided with 6 airbags and rear parking sensors.
