In a bid to ensure strict adherence to tournament protocols and anti-corruption guidelines by all Indian Premier League franchises, IPL CEO Hemang Amin will meet the chief executives of every team by Saturday to “appreciate and sensitize them on the dos and don’ts”.
“Over the last few weeks, we have observed that some of the franchises have been lenient in following tournament protocols, and there have been quite a few inputs given by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). Keeping that in mind, the IPL CEO will meet all the CEOs of the franchises, either in person or through teleconferencing, by Saturday and instruct them to follow the protocols strictly,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told. sports star.
The decision was taken during the IPL Governing Council meeting on Thursday.
The move follows several inputs received by the Board regarding “anomalies and irregularities” in the conduct of certain franchises and players. Saikia revealed that “unauthorized persons” had been seen accompanying players and even entering the hotel rooms of players and team officials.
The BCCI secretary also raised concerns over team owners and players frequenting unauthorized areas. “We will not tolerate any sort of violation of rules. We are vigilant and we will ensure that the integrity of the tournament is not diluted,” Saikia said.
According to Saikia, the ACSU, headed by retired IPS officer Sharad Kumar, has flagged the presence of unauthorized persons in team dugouts during the ongoing tournament. “There is specific information that we have received from the ACSU,” Saikia said. “There are unauthorized persons traveling in team buses, in team hotels and even in the dugout area. Some franchise owners have been seen mingling with players in areas where they don’t have access. And quite a few people have been spotted in places where they are not supposed to be,” Saikia added.
A few weeks ago, Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone near the dugout during Rajasthan Royals’ match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Barsapara Cricket Stadium on April 10. He was fined Rs 1 lakh. And Royals found themselves in further trouble as Riyan Parag, the captain of the franchise, was seen vaping in the dressing room during his side’s IPL match against Punjab Kings. Parag was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and received a demerit point for the same.
“We have already taken action in those matters. But we want to make it clear to the franchises that the BCCI won’t tolerate any breach,” Saikia said. “We might take further action in the vaping incident that is still open. We are exploring all the options.”
