The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the squads for India’s T20I series in Ireland and England, to be held in June and July, respectively.
Shreyas Iyer was named the captain of the T20I side, replacing T20 World Cup-winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped from the team. Shreyas returns to the national T20 side for the first time after a match against Australia in Bengaluru on December 3, 2023.
Shreyas’ impressive leadership credentials in the IPL — leading KKR to the title in 2024 and PBKS to the final in 2025 — along with two seasons of consistent outings with the bat, prompted the selectors to zero in on him. Middle-order batsman Tilak Varma will be Shreyas’ deputy.
The 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi received his maiden national call-up following a record-breaking Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign for Rajasthan Royals. At 15 years and 71 days old, Sooryavanshi becomes the youngest ever player to feature in an Indian cricket team, surpassing the long-standing record held by the great Sachin Tendulkar.
Meanwhile, pace ace Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both the series, though he has been named in the Indian squad for the Asian Games, to be held in September-October.
Following an impressive IPL 2026 campaign for Lucknow Super Giants, pacer Prince Yadav has also been picked for the series in Ireland and England. Prince, who consistently clocked high speeds, claimed 16 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 8.82 in the recently concluded season of the IPL.
India will take on Ireland in a two-match T20I series from June 26 to 28 in Belfast, before playing five T20Is against England between July 1 and 11.
