Gujarat Titans’ continued success is a ‘remarkable story’: Sanjay Manjrekar

Former India international Sanjay Manjrekar has described Gujarat Titans’ continued success in the IPL as a ‘remarkable story’.

GT has qualified IPL 2026 Playoffs, meaning that it has qualified for the final stages of the tournament in four of the five seasons it has competed in.

“Their team has undergone tremendous change with a winning captain leaving, which was a big shake-up. It is actually a remarkable story because it’s a new franchise,” Manjrekar told. Sportstar’s Insight Edge podcast.

“Somewhere Ashish Nehra who’s been the constant should take a lot of pride in that.”

Manjrekar also heaped praise on GT’s top-order of Shubman Gill, B. Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler, who have taken on the responsibility for scoring the bulk of the runs for the side.

Sudharsan and Gill have led the Orange Cap standings for most of the tournament, and the trio have collectively added over 1700 runs for the team.

“They’re going about things differently. If they’ve got 180 to chase, they’ll chase it the old-fashioned way and get it for no loss or one, but not go hammer and tongs,” he said.

“So the strike rates may be on the lower side, but consistency is achieved because of that. The form has not been that erratic. And that strike rate that you see there is the kind of strike rate you’ll see in the playoffs.”
