While her resignation brought a debate angle and sparked gossip, Tulsi revealed the reason behind her decision was a personal one. Why did Tulsi Gabbard step down from her position as Director of National Intelligence?

While announcing that she would step down from her position as Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi revealed that her decision stemmed from the fact that her husband is dealing with a rare form of bone cancer, and for the same reason, he would need her by his side. She stated that her husband, who has been a supportive system in her life, needs her undivided attention right now, which led her to take the step of focusing on her husband by stepping down from public service. While this has been said to be the main reason for Tulsi’s resignation, a report by Reuters cited some close sources, stating that Tulsi was ‘forced out’ by White House.


With these unverified claims, speculations are rife now about the underlying tension within the administration. Some buzz about the alleged conflicts in the military was also rife amid Tulsi’s resignation, which came just after Joe Kent also stepped down. There have been speculations as well that Tulsi had several clashes with senior intelligence officials, including CIA Director John Ratcliffe. This also led people to think whether these clashes were the reason for her to take the decision of stepping away from the public service, even though, in an announcement post on X, Tulsi clearly revealed that she is now focusing on her husband, as he’s battling cancer.


White House dismisses the claims about Tulsi Gabbard being ‘forced out’

While the unverified speculations are rife already, White House denied the claims of Tulsi Gabbard being ‘forced out’, i.e., pressured into resigning. Spokesperson Davis R. Ingle recently revealed the reports that claim Tulsi was pressured are nothing but ‘slanderous’. 

Davis further defended Trump and Tulsi. To mention, Trump, after Tulsi’s announcement of stepping away from her position, praised her for her incredible job and also wished her husband a speedy recovery. Spokesperson Davis R. Ingle, in a statement, revealed that Tulsi is an America First patriot who served the country with utmost loyalty, and thus, any information apart from what the President said about her resignation is simply ‘slanderous’. The statement could be read as:

“Tulsi Gabbard is an America First patriot who has served this country faithfully and extremely well over the last 16 months. As the President said, she is stepping aside to ensure that her husband becomes better than ever before. Any suggestion that the White House forced her to resign over her husband’s health is slanderous.”


For the unversed, Tulsi, at the age of 21, was elected to the Hawaii State Legislature, which makes her one of the youngest women to do so. After the September 11 attacks, Tulsi joined the Hawaii Army National Guard, and her military service eventually became the foundation of her political identity.
