Vaibhav Sooryavanshi equals record for fastest fifty in IPL playoffs

Rajasthan Royals batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a whirlwind 97 in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the PCA New Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Sooryavanshi fell just short of Chris Gayle’s record of the fastest hundred in the IPL, when he was dismissed for 97 off 29 balls.

His knock was studded with five fours and 12 sixes, setting the Royals up for a dominant score after being put in to bat.

During the course of the innings, Sooryavanshi equaled Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest fifty in IPL Playoffs — both batters reached the half century mark in just 16 balls.
