Being one of the biggest singers of recent times, Beyonce has often made headlines. However, over the years, her daughter, Blue Ivy, has also become a talking point among fans and the media. Many notice how similar Blue Ivy tends to appear to her mom sometimes, and her grandmother, Tina Knowles, also admitted the same during a recent interview.
Tina Knowles says Blue Ivy is just like her mom, Beyonce
On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Tina Knowles took home a Gracie Award for her audiobook, Matriarch. The award ceremony reportedly took place in Beverly Hills, California, where the 72-year-old opened up about being brought to tears at the sight of her granddaughter, Blue Ivy, at the 2026 Met Gala. Speaking with People, Tina claimed:
“She’s just like her mama because she’s a huge talent. And because she is very poised.”
For those unaware, Blue Ivy is currently 14 years old. This is around the same age as when her mom, Beyonce’s Texas-based girl group, Girl’s Tyme, became Destiny’s Child. Other members in the group included Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett.
During the same interview, Tina went on to say that if it were here in Blue Ivy’s place, she couldn’t do it. She added, “I mean, the Met Gala, I couldn’t do it. And so I was like, look how poised she is on the red carpet and how she knows exactly what she wants. Yeah, it made me very proud.” For the uninitiated, Blue Ivy is the eldest of Beyonce and Jay Z’s three children, including twins, Rumi and Sir, who are 8 years old. Meanwhile, Tina Knowles is also a grandmother to Solange’s son, Daniel “Julez” Smith Jr., who is 21 years old.
Blue Ivy makes Met Gala debut with mom, Beyonce
At the beginning of this month, on May 4, 2026, Blue Ivy was seen attending the 2026 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City alongside her mother, Beyonce. Her attendance immediately became the talk of the town, as in 2018, event organisers revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that there was a new age limit for attendees, as it was not an “appropriate event for people under 18.” However, there are exceptions for minors accompanied by their parents, as seen in the case of Blue Ivy.
Marking her first appearance at the Met Gala after 10 years, Beyonce stunned in a skeletal-inspired dress and matching headpiece, paired with a dramatic feathered cape. On the other hand, Blue looked equally beautiful in a monochromatic white Balenciaga strapless gown with a billowing skirt and train. To add a cool and modern twist to the outfit, Blue also wore an unzipped jacket over her gown and a pair of sunglasses. When Vogue caught up with Beyonce during the event, the singer gushed over her lookalike daughter, saying, “I think she looks so incredible.”
It is worth mentioning that the dress code for this year’s Met Gala was Fashion Is Art, reflecting the museum’s upcoming spring exhibition titled Costume Art. Andrew Bolton, who is the curator-in-charge, had previously told Vogue that the exhibit highlights “the centrality of the dressed body in the museum’s vast collection.”
A day after the Met, on May 5, 2026, on the 3rd Hour of Today, Tina Knowles opened up about her daughter and granddaughter’s appearance. She admitted that she got really emotional and “shed a few years.” She added:
“It was kind of reminiscent. Beyoncé started her first red carpet at 15, and Blue is 14, so just seeing her out there looking confident and beautiful. It was deja vu.”
