Veteran actor, Ramakant Dayama bid adieu to the world on May 26, 2026 at the age of 85 following a prolonged illness. The actor par excellence was one of the most versatile stars across films, television, theatre, and digital platforms. Over his decade long career, Ramakant was hailed for bringing layered characters on screen in films like Chak De! India, Paa and many others. Just like her father, Yashaswini Dayama is also a prolific actress. She has been a part of many films, web shows and has featured in many commercials too. Born in Mumbai, Yashaswini is a bundle of talent. After completing her schooling, she graduated from St. Xavier’s College with a bachelor’s degree in mass media.
Yashaswini gained limelight after playing Alia Bhatt’s best friend
Yashaswini began her career with YouTube videos. After she met with an advertisement agent, Yashaswini auditioned for a TV commercial and got selected. While she was set out to try her luck as a singer, as luck would have it, Yashaswini found herself auditioning for TV commercials/ Bollywood movies. She was later seen in advertisements including Airtel 4G, Hike, Micromax and many others. Yashaswini acting journey happened accidentally.
Her stint with acting happened because of her model-actor brother, Prabuddh wanted a specific kurta for an audition and she went on to deliver it to him. In an interview with the Times of India, Yashaswini recalled how she got her first audition and shared:
“I went to give him the kurta and the casting director asked me if I could act. I said ‘no’; I had just been an angel or a tree in my school skits till then. He asked me if I could drive a vehicle; I said ‘no’ because I really didn’t know how to. Yet he insisted that I give a test. And this audition was one of a kind. There was no narrative per se, no lines. The next thing I knew was that I was being considered for ‘Phobia’ and ‘Dear Zindagi’.”
Her famous Coca Cola advertisement with Diljit Dosanjh is still unforgettable. It was in 2016 when Yashaswini gained popularity after playing the role of Alia Bhatt’s best friend, ‘Jackie’ in Dear Zindagi.

Yashaswini later featured in a short film, Ruhaan – The story of a lost boy in 2017. She then went on to act in web series like Adulting, Made In Heaven, Delhi Crime, Bandish Bandits and many others. She is credited as a singer in the song Bebaqiyaan for Bandish Bandits. In 2020, Yashaswini appeared in Hindi short film, Devi along with Kajol, Shruti Haasan and Neena Kulkarni.
Yashaswini was also listed in Forbes 30 under 30 magazine. After Dear Zindagi, Yashaswini got a lot of auditions, but she didn’t crack all of them. Despite she doesn’t look like a quintessential heroine, Yashaswini was praised for the roles she did with finesse. Talking about her auditions and her father’s role in it, Yashaswini told The Times of India:
“Dad has never pushed his opinions on me. But yes, he did make sure that I am going to the right places. There are some areas where you need not step in. Dad said that nothing is greater than my mental sanity and if this job is stressing you out, please keep it aside and do something else. He understood my anxiety and I guess he was talking from his experiences.”
