Karuppu, the highly anticipated Tamil action drama, has already created a huge buzz on social media. Recently, the film made on a budget of Rs. 130 crore has crossed the Rs. 200 crore milestone. Yes, you read it right. Trisha Krishnan and Suriya starrer becomes the 7th Indian film of 2026 to enter the Rs. 200 crore club worldwide. For the unversed, Karuppu grossed Rs. 203.54 crore worldwide. Amid the huge success, Suriya dropped a major hint about the sequel.
Suriya drops a hint about a possible sequel to Karuppu
Karuppu has been a massive blockbuster. Initially, the film faced financial issues that delayed its release. For the uninitiated, previously, Suriya’s film, Karuppu, was scheduled to hit the theatres on May 14, 2026, but the shows got cancelled. However, the audience didn’t have to wait too long as Suriya and Trisha Krishnan starrer was finally released on May 15, 2026. In a recent meet and greet event, Suriya, the male lead of Karuppu, dropped a major hint about a possible sequel. During the event, someone asked Suriya whether Karuppu’s sequel is on the cards.
Hearing this, the crowd cheered loudly, and Suriya was heard saying in a casual way, “Let’s see, sir,” keeping the speculation active without directly confirming that the sequel is on the way. However, fans of Karuppu are convinced that the makers might be planning something that would be revealed at some other time. In the same event, Suriya highlighted that a lot of effort has been put into Karuppu, especially during the climax and musical sections. He revealed that an important song was added about five months after the final edit as the makers felt it was essential to create more depth in the storytelling.
The Karuppu star stated that the entire team worked on the film with sincerity, passion, and a deep respect for the project, and now they are just happy to see such a great response from the audience. For those unaware, the fantasy action drama was directed by RJ Balaji and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. Alongside Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, Karuppu stars Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada and Supreeth Reddy. In fact, RJ Balaji has also stepped into the shoes of the antagonist, ‘Baby Kannan.’
Plotline of Karuppu
The story of Karuppu revolves around ‘Saravanan’, a righteous advocate who becomes a pillar of strength for the marginalised community during a period of unrest. ‘Saravanan’, who is going through emotional turmoil in his personal life, needs to confront his powerful enemies at the same time. Soon, the narrative changes drastically when ‘Saravanan’ and ‘God Karuppuswamy’ come together to fight the odds. There has been a long-standing criminal case involving Indrans as ‘Binu’s’ father and Anagha Maaya Ravi as ‘Binu’, and the father-daughter’s journey to seek justice gets tough when advocate, ‘Baby Kannan’ joins hands with a corrupt judge and controls the proceedings.
Jyotika shared her review of the film, Karuppu
In a recent interview with Sudhir Srinivasan, Jyotika shared her review of Karuppu. She highlighted that in the last ten minutes of the film, her husband, Suriya, had really performed brilliantly. She mentioned that Karuppu was a combination of strong performances, fresh storytelling, massy scenes, and heroic moments. She was quoted as saying:
“The last ten minutes of the film, Suriya has really performed brilliantly. That combination is very rare to have: a performance, plus fresh storytelling, infused with heroic moments, massy scenes, that whole combo is very rare to happen where it also makes numbers and is also loved, and a performance is also taken into consideration. So it’s happened now, and we’re so overwhelmed and so happy with the love. It’s a celebration at home. He always makes sure there is a story in every film. But the box office numbers are also required.”
