Indian captain Shubman Gill brought up his 11th Test century during Day 1 of the first Test against Afghanistan at New Chandigarh on Saturday.
Gill took just 138 deliveries to reach the feat, making it his fastest Test century. His previous fastest century came against England on captaincy debut in 2025, when Gill took 140 balls to reach the three figure mark. Gill also reached 1000 runs as captain of the Indian test team in the process.
Gill has so far struck 11 boundaries and a six in his innings, and ended the day unbeaten on 103 off 143 balls. The 26-year-old’s century along with KL Rahul 12th Test hundred earlier in the day helped India finish the day on 368/3, comfortably in the drivers seat.
