The iPad mini 4 has been declared obsolete from March 31, 2026, while the 2017 MacBook Air has been placed in the vintage category. This simply means that now the service and support from the company for these devices will be limited or stopped.
According to Apple’s rules, a product is considered obsolete when it has been sold for more than 7 years. The company completely stops hardware service for such devices and even authorized service centers cannot order parts for them. That means iPad mini 4 users will no longer get any kind of official repair service.
There itself, vintage category Products falling in the category of obsolete are those which have been discontinued for a period of 5 to 7 years. In this situation, service may be available in some cases, but it completely depends on the availability of parts. In such a situation, MacBook Air 2017 users may get limited hardware support, but it is not guaranteed.
For users, this clearly means that the official repair facility on iPad mini 4 has now ended. At the same time, the service for MacBook Air 2017 will also gradually reduce. Apart from this, the possibility of getting new software updates for these devices is also very less, which may affect app compatibility and security.
If a user faces any issues with these devices, they may have to resort to third-party repair options. This decision of Apple is part of its product lifecycle policy, where the company keeps removing old devices from the support list from time to time. This update comes at a time when the company has also recently launched new iPads and MacBooks.
