American devices and technology company Apple has not given its financial data to the Competition Commission of India (CCI). CCI had found in an investigation that Apple had misused its dominant position in the iPhone apps market. CCI has fixed the final hearing of this case next month. After this, a decision can be given soon in this matter.
One of Reuters Report According to, in a recent order given by CCI in this regard, it has been said that Apple has not disclosed its financial data or its views on the investigation. Instead, the company has cited a separate case pending in the Delhi High Court in which Apple has challenged the country’s antitrust penalty law. The CCI generally requires financial data to impose penalties on a company for violating competition laws. Apple has denied any wrongdoing in this matter. The iPhone maker has said that it fears that if its international turnover is used to impose penalties, it could face a penalty of around $38 billion.
It has been said in the CCI order that Apple has been given ample opportunities to lodge objections or give suggestions regarding this investigation. The company has not submitted the financial information sought in this case. The order has not been made public but has been seen by Reuters. Apple and CCI have not responded to the questions sent by Reuters in this regard.
Similar cases are going on against Apple in some other countries also. India is an important market for the company. The share of iPhones in the country’s smartphone market is about nine percent. CCI has given the company a period of two weeks to file its reply. Along with this, the date of May 21 has been fixed for the final hearing of this case. This is also indicating that a decision will be given soon in this matter.
