Anna Kepner’s death case witnessed a new development after her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson, was charged with murder on May 27, 2026 (ET). The update arrives a few months after his arrest in February 2026. Although he was allowed to stay with his uncle after being taken into custody, Hudson was to be electronically monitored.
While he has been charged, Timothy remains free, and the judge is seeking a list of locations from the U.S. Marshal where he will get access to all the important things. Legal documents reveal the conditions in which Anna Kepner was discovered

For the unversed, Anna Kepner was found dead on November 7, 2025, on the cruise ship, Carnival Horizon. Notably, she had reportedly entered a cabin inside the cruise on November 6, 2025, a day before her death, as stated in some legal documents acquired by PEOPLE. However, Anna did not leave the room once she entered at 7:38 p.m.

A crew member of the cruise then discovered Kepner the next day during the morning hours. Anna was allegedly wrapped in a blanket, which was put below her bed. Assistant U.S. Attorney, Alejandra Lopez, claimed that someone had seemingly attempted to hide Anna for another time by partially putting her under the bed and covering her body with a box of life vests. Alejandra also said that surveillance cameras had reportedly captured Timothy and Anna entering the same room.

Kepner even spoke to someone on Snapchat shortly after she went inside. Around two hours later, Timothy had allegedly checked both sides of the hallway before leaving the stateroom. Furthermore, the cruise’s WiFi routers hinted that Anna’s phone was with Timothy when he came out, and he took the device to another deck. Hudson then reportedly threw the phone in a trash can, and it was later found by another crew member.
Anna Kepner reportedly got intimate with someone without her consent
Alejandra Lopez opened up on other details about Anna Kepner’s condition when her dead body was found. According to WKMG, Lopez claimed that Kepner’s underwear was twisted and inserted in half towards her private parts. This even hinted that she possibly had sexual intercourse without her consent.

Alejandra said that the DNA found in the semen sample is strongly suspected to belong to Timothy Hudson. Meanwhile, Lopez referred to the autopsy report, claiming that Kepner’s death was a result of mechanical asphyxiation. Alejandra said that Timothy had possibly used a chokehold for a few minutes on Anna, leading to her death and even bursting her eardrum.
Anna Kepner’s brother claimed that Timothy Hudson stopped him from entering the cabin
Alejandra Lopez also told the court that Anna Kepner’s body was hidden in such a way that her own brother did not realise that he was sleeping almost near his sister’s dead body in the same cabin. While speaking to the investigators, Anna’s brother said that he witnessed her stopping by their cabin at around 7:51 p.m.

However, Kepner was missing for the next four hours, and her brother eventually went to bed. According to PEOPLE, Anna’s brother said that he once went to check on the cabin at midnight. But Hudson did not allow him to enter, and he waited in the hallway for some time. On the other hand, Timothy entered the cabin a few minutes before Anna did on November 6, 2025. Moreover, he left the room occasionally for almost 18 hours.

Back in April 2026, the prosecutors asked the court to cancel Timothy Hudson’s release before trial. Notably, Anna’s father, Christopher, said in February 2026 that he wants Timothy to face the consequences, adding that he was a normal kid. Christopher also stated that he never expected such things to happen, and he will continue fighting to ensure that Hudson is punished.
