Apple MacBook Neo Price Hike Hinted May Discontinue 256GB Model Due to Rising DRAM High Demand

Apple’s budget laptop MacBook Neo has been in the news since its launch. The biggest reason for this was its starting price of Rs 69,990, which gave direct competition to many Windows laptops. However, reports are now claiming that Apple may soon discontinue its cheapest 256GB storage variant. If this happens then the starting price of MacBook Neo may increase to Rs 79,990. It is being told that the company may take this step due to increasing demand and production cost.

Former Bloomberg journalist and chip expert Tim Culpan Report according to Apple MacBook Neo Almost doubling its production to 10 million units. The company’s CEO Tim Cook also admitted in the recent earnings call that the demand for MacBook Neo was higher than expected and the company had not made adequate estimates for it. The report claims that due to this reason there is a shortage of Neo in many markets.

Apple used the A18 Pro chip in MacBook Neo, which was earlier given in the iPhone 16 Pro series. It is reported that the company had used “binned” chips in it. This means chips that have a minor hardware defect, such as a GPU core not working, but the rest of the chip is completely usable. According to the report, due to this strategy Apple was able to launch MacBook Neo at a price of $599.

However, now due to increasing demand, Apple has to order new chips from TSMC. Tim said this is a “hot lot” order, meaning it will be filled quickly. Although there is not much premium on this, but the increase in the price of RAM along with purchasing new and fully functional chips can increase the company’s costs.

It is being told that Apple may discontinue the 256GB model to maintain its profit margin. In such a situation, users will have to directly buy the 512GB variant, which will cost around $699 in India. Rs 79,990 Is. The company has already justified the prices of MacBook Air and MacBook Pro by increasing the base storage. Apart from this, the report said that Apple had also discontinued the entry models of M4 Mac mini due to increasing cost and demand.

Tim has even said that the other option for Apple was to stop the sale of MacBook Neo, but the company does not want to do so. It is believed that MacBook Neo has become a big opportunity for Apple to increase its market share. Apart from this, users who are leaving Windows PC and buying MacBook Neo can also use Apple Music, iCloud and other Apple services in future.
