Stanley Tucci is known for playing a wide variety of roles throughout his Hollywood career. He played the popular designer, ‘Nigel’, in The Devil Wears Prada and his versatility on the screen was commendable. Not many people know this, but Tucci is married to Emily Blunt’s sister, Felicity Blunt. The actor never misses a chance to heap praises on his wife, and something similar happened recently, too.
Stanley Tucci heaped praises on Felicity Blunt for taking care of his family while he battled cancer
It was during the 2006 premiere of The Devil Wears Prada that Tucci met Felicity. He was already married to his first wife, Kate, who was battling breast cancer at that time. After Kate passed away in 2009, Tucci got married to Felicity, who not only accepted him but also became a mother to his three girls from his previous marriage.
In 2017, Tucci was diagnosed with throat cancer, and Felicity was expecting their daughter Emilia at that time. Despite being pregnant, Felicity made sure to take care of Tucci and their family. On Jenna Bush Hager’s podcast, Tucci revealed that the physical and emotional toll was difficult for his pregnant wife. Speaking about the same, he shared:
“I couldn’t do anything for myself. That was awful for her.”
Stanley Tucci’s cancer affected his voice
If you have seen The Devil Wears Prada and The Devil Wears Prada 2, you will notice a significant change in Tucci’s voice. The reason behind the same was the impact cancer had on his vocal cords. In 2017, after Stanley experienced throat pain, he was diagnosed with oral cancer. A 3 cm tumour was detected at the base of his tongue.
It was not like any ordinary tumour, as if it were operated on, then there were chances that he would lose the ability to speak. Instead of getting it operated, he underwent radiation and chemotherapy. In his memoir, Taste: My Life Through Food, Tucci wrote about his cancer battle and penned:
“I had a feeding tube, not down my throat but in my stomach, for six months, and the recovery has been a long one. For over two years my mouth was incredibly sensitive. I couldn’t drink anything carbonated and certainly could not eat anything spicy. I was able to drink and taste alcohol but mostly stuck to white wine with copious amounts of ice.”
Stanley Tucci and Felicity Blunt have an age gap of 21 years
Stanley Tucci first married Kate Spath in 1995 and welcomed a daughter, Camilla, and twins, Nicolo and Isabel, together. In 2009, Kate passed away after battling cancer, which had devastated Tucci. Tucci had previously met Felicity, who is the sister of actress, Emily Blunt. He reconnected with her during Emily’s wedding and soon fell in love. A year later, they got married and welcomed a son, Matteo, and a daughter, Emilia.
Tucci was sceptical about marrying Felicity because they had a 21-year age gap. But Felicity gave him a sense of security in his life with her positivity. On Jenna Bush Hager’s podcast, he spoke about the same and revealed:
“I never thought I would have children again. And when I met her, it just sort of made sense, even though there is this age gap of 21 years. I think she changed my life in the sense that she gave me a sense of security. She gave my children a sense of security. And she’s fun. Like, she’s fun to hang out with.”
