It’s been more than three months that Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie has been missing. It all began on February 1, 2026, when Nancy failed to visit the church, which raised questions. Later, it was revealed that she had been kidnapped. In the past few days, investigators have been analysing blood traces and a strand of hair for DNA. Well, now experts have shared that DNA might help identify the kidnapper.
Will DNA help identify the kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie?
Recently, forensic expert, April Stonehouse had a conversation with NewsNation Senior National Correspondent, Brian Entin, during which she revealed that the kidnapper of Nancy Guthrie might have left some evidence about his identity, while taking the 84-year-old woman with her. As per a report by Hindustan Times, April Stonehouse was quoted as saying:
“We know scientifically that they will leave behind traces of their DNA. It’s just a matter of locating and finding it. You basically are at the mercy of whatever the suspect left behind.”
Further, during the same conversation, when Brian asked April if the DNA might solve the case, then the forensic expert shared, “I hope it is. I hope it is. Yes, I do.” For those who do not know, a Florida lab that has been working with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department sent a strand of hair for DNA test to help find clues regarding Nancy’s kidnapping.
Is Nancy Guthrie dead?
Ever since Nancy Guthrie has been kidnapped, multiple theories are being shared online. While some shared details regarding the kidnapper, others believed that she might have been dead till now. However, amid all the rumours, a woman named Elizabeth Smart had a conversation on CNN. Reportedly, she was once kidnapped at the age of 14 in 2002 and was held for nine months. According to TV Insider, she was sexually assaulted and threatened to death before she tried to escape. Talking about Nancy, she was quoted as saying:
“She could absolutely still be alive. There are cases that span many more years than mine does, and they came back alive. We’re talking years and years, so she could absolutely still be alive. Of course, there is the alternative. But until we know, we have to keep looking until… [Nancy] deserves, either way, to be brought home.”
Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapper was spotted near her neighbourhood
Recently, a masked man with gloves was spotted near Nancy Guthrie’s house. According to footage, the man arrived late at night on April 28, 2026, in a large grey pickup truck. In the footage, the masked man was spotted stealing plants from the front porch. Right after stealing, he drove away. However, what concerned the neighbours was the similarity in the appearance of this masked man with Nancy’s kidnapper. Reportedly, a resident told News 4, “It is someone walking on your property late at night, uninvited, it might be a small crime, but committing a crime, and it is disturbing.”

On May 6, 2026, Savannah Guthrie abruptly exited her Today show, without giving any explanation. However, her co-anchor, Craig Malvin, assured fans that Savannah will return.
