The 10th edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup is just a day away, with host England kicking things off with a group-stage match against Sri Lanka on Friday.
The 12 teams in contention have named squads which consist of hardened veterans of the game and young blood.
The youngest of the lot is Netherlands’ Lara Leehmius, who’s just 17 years old. The oldest player, however, is older than the Dutch player by 12 years.
Who is the oldest player at Women’s T20 World Cup 2026?
West Indies’ Afy Fletcher, aged 39, will be the oldest player to take to the field in this World Cup. In T20Is, the leg-break bowler has taken 102 wickets in 108 matches, at an economy of 6.23.
Her career spans 18 years. However, there was almost a seven-year gap in which she wasn’t part of the Windies’ T20I set-up. She was called up again in 2015, after which she was included in the 2016 T20 World Cup-winning team.
Despite her age, Fletcher remains a constant threat with the ball, as seen in the recent warm-up match against India, where she restricted the run flow and even snared four wickets for 23 runs in her four overs.
