
Global pop icon and actress, Shakira, who rose to nationwide fame with the song, Waka Waka, has often grabbed attention due to her personal life. In the past few years, Shakira has dominated the headlines for her breakup with former soccer player, Gerard Pique, with whom the singer shares two sons, Milan and Sasha. After a long relationship, the duo broke up for good in 2022, leaving Shakira heartbroken. Well, recently, she opened up about the difficult phase and credited her sons for helping her at that time.

A while ago, Shakira had a conversation with PEOPLE, during which she opened up about her breakup with Gerard Pique and how she coped up from it. For the unversed, Shakira and Gerard met during the shoot of Waka Waka and after more than a decade, they parted ways. She stated that during those challenging times, her biggest support was her two sons, Milan and Sasha. Shakira was quoted as saying:
“When your world collapses, you have to get up and pay the bills and still prepare breakfast and take your kids to school. Life needs to go on. Motherhood makes you strong. The moment I became a mother, I saw life through a different perspective, and my kids are not only the best thing that happened to me, but I’ve learned so much from them every day.”

After her breakup with Gerard Pique, Shakira has not made a lot of headlines about her love-life; however, a few months ago, multiple reports claimed that the singer was romantically involved with British actor, Lucien Laviscount. The two reportedly met during a music video and allegedly parted ways due to their busy careers. But during the recent chat with PEOPLE, when Shakira was asked if she is ready to settle down with someone or not, she explained:
“I’m just thinking of raising my kids. I don’t see that for now. Maybe when they’re older.”

Further, during the same conversation, Shakira also opened up about writing her single, Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53. For the unversed, she wrote the song for her ex-boyfriend, Gerard Pique, in which she channelled her anger, frustration and heartbreak. Shakira mentioned that releasing the single was therapeutic for her as she felt very light and peaceful after it. In her words:
“It was just pure catharsis. I really needed to write about what I was going through and not have any censor. That song was just so good. It was very therapeutic. I needed it. After that song came out and I wrote that song, I was like, ‘I feel lighter.’ And I feel like a lot of people, a lot of women who have been going through something similar, they were telling me how important that was for them.”
