Italian luxury sports car manufacturing company Ferrari has launched its first electric sports car today on May 26. It is a 4-door, 5-seater electric GT car, which has been designed for people who want luxury along with speed. The special thing is that apart from being the first EV of Ferrari, Luce is also the first 5 seater car.
It has been designed by Apple’s former design chief Johnny Ive’s company ‘LoveFrom’. The company claims that the car will run 530km on full charge and its top speed is 310kmph. The starting ex-showroom price of Ferrari Luce is 5.50 lakh Euro (Rs 6.10 crore). Booking of the car has been started worldwide.
At present, no official information has been given regarding its launch in the Indian market, but it is expected that it can be brought to India through the import route in the coming time.
Exterior: Ferrari’s most unique design ever
The design of the Luce is not like other Ferrari cars. It has been designed from scratch i.e. ‘clean sheet’.
- Dimension: This is Ferrari’s longest car ever. Its length is 5026mm, which is 53mm more than Purosangwe. Its width is 1999mm and height is 1544mm.
- Aerodynamics: The car has been provided with vertical wipers which improve air flow. Its drag coefficient (0.254 cD) is the lowest of any Ferrari road car.
- Wheels: It has 23-inch alloy wheels at the front and 24-inch alloy wheels at the rear, which are the largest in the history of Ferrari.
- Look: The car has a two-piece body design, with a gloss black passenger cell covered with an aluminum outer shell. Signature quad circular tail lamps are provided at the rear.
Interior: Combination of Apple look and retro theme
Jony Ive’s ‘Apple Aesthetics’ is clearly visible inside the car. Anodized aluminum and Corning glass have been used in it.
- 5-seater layout: This is the first Ferrari which has seating space for 5 people. It has suicide doors (doors opening at the rear) at the rear.
- Dashboard: Instead of a screen, priority has been given to physical buttons and analog feel. The steering wheel is inspired by Ferrari cars of the 1950-60s.
- Display: For the driver, there is a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster made up of an 8-layer OLED screen. There is a 10-inch iPad-like infotainment screen in the center, which can be rotated towards the passenger with the help of a ball-and-socket joint.
- Boot Space: The car has a large boot space of 597 litres, which is the highest in any Ferrari car.
Performance: 1050hp power and quad motor setup
Luce is a performance beast. It has four electric motors (one on each wheel).
- Power and Torque: This setup together generates maximum power of 1050hp and torque of 990Nm.
- Speed: The company claims that this car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Its top speed is 310 km/hr.
- driving mode: It has three power levels – Range Mode (430hp), Tour Mode (617hp) and Performance Mode (986hp). To unleash the full 1050hp power, the driver has to pull the ‘launch control grip’ above his head.
Battery and range: Will run 530km on a single charge
Ferrari has designed and manufactured the battery of this car in Maranello itself.
- battery pack: It has a large 122kWh battery, which works on 800V architecture.
- Range: Once fully charged, this car will give a range of about 530 km.
- Sound: Despite being electric, it has been provided with an ‘authentic sound’ system, which gives the driver the feel of a sports car by amplifying the vibrations of the rotating components.
Safety Features: Advanced Suspension and Torque Vectoring
The Luce is designed to be not only fast, but also comfortable and safe.
- Suspension: It has been provided with 48V Multimatic True-Active Spool Valve Dampers, which adjust the ride quality of the car according to the road.
- Control: It has four-wheel steering and active torque vectoring, which keeps the car glued to the road even in fast mode.
- Braking: Regenerative braking and torque output can be set at 5 different levels using paddle shifters located behind the steering.
