Priyansh Arya run out in bizarre manner against Sri Lanka A

Priyansh Arya was left cursing his luck after a bizarre sequence involving Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella’s shoe contributed to his run-out during India A’s tri-series opener in Dambulla on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the 13th over when Arya and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad found themselves stranded following a mix-up while attempting a second run. Gaikwad set off looking for two, but Arya was not interested in the second. By the time the call was made, Gaikwad had already reached the striker’s end, leaving the Sri Lankans with a run-out opportunity at the non-striker’s end.

The dismissal was referred to the third umpire to determine which batter had made his ground first. Replays showed that Gaikwad had crossed the crease ahead of Arya, making the latter the batter to be dismissed.

A closer look, however, revealed an unfortunate twist. As Arya lunged to complete his run, the bat he was dragging behind him appeared to get stuck under Dickwella’s shoe, preventing it from sliding over the crease. Arya seemed set to make his ground comfortably before the brief obstruction delayed the bat’s progress.

The unlucky dismissal brought an end to a promising innings of 32 off 32 balls, which included four boundaries and a six.
