
Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation from the Trump Administration. She shared the news in an emotional statement that has gone viral. Now, the ex-Director of National Intelligence revealed that she is stepping away from public service to support her husband, Abraham Williams, after his bone cancer diagnosis. In turn, her resignation is among the biggest cabinet exits from Donald Trump’s administration.
Tulsi Gabbard posts emotional resignation message
According to a Fox News report and Tulsi Gabbard’s post on X, she informed President Donald Trump of her resignation in a private Oval Office meeting. Her resignation will officially take effect on June 30, 2026. In her letter, she opened up about her husband, Abraham Williams’ health battle. Tulsi also explained that she cannot continue to work to the best of her abilities in a demanding national security role during her husband’s health battle. The former Director of National Intelligence also mentioned that Abraham had supported her during her military deployments, political campaigns,, and her leadership role in the government during his time. In her words:
“My husband, Abraham, has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage- standing steadfast through my deployment to East Africa on a Joint Special Operations mission, multiple political campaigns, and now my service in this role.”

Further, Tulsi explained that her husband is expected to face major health challenges in the coming months. It is because he is battling with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. So, according to her, she must step down from a public service role to fully support him through his treatment and recovery. At the same time, she expressed her gratitude to the President for trusting her with the role of Director of National Intelligence. In fact, she also promised a smooth transfer of responsibilities. In turn, President Trump praised her and called her work in the Intelligence community “incredible”.

Who will replace Tulsi Gabbard?
Following Tulsi Gabbard’s resignation announcement, the Trump administration quickly confirmed that Aaron Lukas will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence. He is presently serving as the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence. At the same time, he has more than two decades of experience in intelligence and national security operations. According to reports, he previously worked for the Central Intelligence Agency. The president himself announced the temporary announcement through Truth Social shortly after Tulsi’s resignation.

They soon bonded over their mutual interests in surfing, nature, and outdoor activities. Eventually, Abraham popped the question to Tulsi during a surf session in Hawaii. Later, they got married in a traditional Vedic Hindu ceremony in 2015. The couple have no children.
