Smartphone Shipments in India declines to Six-Year Low in Q1, Vivo Gets First Rank in Market, Apple, iPhone 17

There has been a three percent decline in smartphone shipments in the country in the first quarter of this year. This is the lowest quarter of shipments for this market in the last six years. The main reasons behind this are pressure on the price of memory components, increase in the prices of smartphones and low consumer demand.

Smartphone companies have postponed the launch of many new smartphones due to increasing component costs and currency fluctuations. In this market, Chinese smartphone maker Vivo (except iQOO) has secured the first position with a share of 21 percent. Vivo has benefited from increased demand in the mid-premium segment of the new V series smartphones and increased retail presence.

South Korea’s Samsung ranks second in the smartphones market. Samsung has benefited from sales offers on A-series smartphones like Samsung Galaxy A07. Along with this, the initial demand for the company’s Samsung Galaxy S26 series has also been strong. In the first quarter, Samsung has made the highest shipments in the Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 segment. Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is in third place with a market share of 14 percent. Oppo has had strong sales in the budget segment with its A and K series smartphones. It has been the biggest growth achiever among the top five smartphone companies with a year-on-year growth of eight percent.

Xiaomi has been ranked fourth in the first quarter with its sub-brand Poco. Xiaomi has achieved double-digit growth in the Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 segment. Xiaomi’s share in this market is 7.9 percent and Poco’s share is 4.8 percent. American devices maker Apple has a market share of nine percent. Demand for Apple’s iPhone 17 series remains strong. It has been told in this report that Nothing, which entered the smartphone market a few years ago, has achieved a growth of 47 percent on a year-on-year basis in the first quarter. Expansion in the offline retail market has helped Nothing in increasing sales.
