The Government of India has issued a serious cyber security alert regarding Mozilla’s popular browser Firefox and email client Thunderbird. According to the government, many high-severity flaws have been found in both these platforms, taking advantage of which cyber attackers can access users’ data or harm the system. Now in this context, questions have been raised on Mozilla’s products. According to the January 2026 security bulletin, if a user unknowingly clicks on a dangerous link or opens a specially crafted website, these vulnerabilities can be exploited remotely.

CERT-In’s advisory states that these flaws could lead to bypassing of privacy protections, memory issues, and in some cases, partial extraction of content from encrypted emails. According to the government agency, a remote attacker could take advantage of these vulnerabilities by tricking a user into making a specific web request or opening content.

This warning especially applies to users using older versions. Systems running Mozilla Firefox versions older than 147.0.2, or Thunderbird versions older than 140.7.1 and 147.0.1, are considered at risk.
