Eva Grover was once a leading name in the telly world. Many know her as ‘Niharika Kapoor’ from the hit telly show, Bade Ache Lagte Hain. She has been a part of many leading shows like Kora Kagaz, Shararat, Karishma Kaa Karishma, Office Office and many more. Though everyone is well-aware of Eva’s professional achievements, not many people know that she was a victim of domestic abuse.
Eva Grover eloped and got married to Aamir Khan’s step brother, Hyder Ali Khan
Eva Grover was a victim of abuse when she got married to Aamir Khan’s step brother, Hyder Ali Khan. She fell in love with Hyder and dated him only for 18 days before deciding to get married to him. Her mother didn’t approve of the inter-faith marriage, so she eloped with Hyder. In a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Eva recalled the same and shared that her career was taking off when she decided to get married. When on the 19th day, Hyder proposed, she was over the moon and eloped with him to get married.
Eva Grover revealed Hyder had anger issues which led him to turn physically violent
The rosy picture which Eva thought was the reality of her marriage soon faded away and she realised that it was nothing as she dreamt. In the same interview, Eva shared that Hyder turned ‘physically violent’ with her often and it was because of his anger issues. But it was the love she had for him, which kept her going.
Despite her multiple attempts, the situation only turned volatile and with time, the violence only increased. After being in a violent marriage, Eva thought that a child would change their relationship. Elaborating on the same, she shared:
“In those days, mental health wasn’t discussed the way it is today. After four years, I allowed myself to get pregnant because I genuinely believed things would improve. That’s what many people in our country are taught, that a child will save a troubled marriage. But in severe situations, it usually doesn’t work that way.”
Aamir Khan warned Eva Grover when she decided to marry his step brother, Hyder Ali Khan
Hyder Ali Khan was Aamir Khan’s step brother. Hyder was the son of Tahir Hussain’s second wife, Shehnaz Hussain. However, Tahir Hussain raised Hyder like his own. In the same conversation, Eva revealed that Tahir Hussain often spoke to her about her marital troubles and would get emotional as well. Eva also shared that Aamir too warned her to not marry his step brother.
Eva Grover revealed her daughter gave her courage to step away from the abusive marriage
Despite being pregnant, Eva continued working and hoped that her situation would change soon. But nothing happened and with time, the violence only added to her misery. Soon, the birth of her daughter became the turning point of her life. Within a month of her daughter’s birth, Eva reached a breaking point and couldn’t take the torture any further.
Eva was working on the television show Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya when her marriage was turning volatile. She revealed that members of the show’s cast and crew gradually became aware of the challenges she was facing at her home. They all gathered to help her and took her out of the situation. The entire unit of the show visited her home and requested her mother to take her back. It encouraged Eva and she gathered the courage to leave her abusive marriage and husband behind to lead a normal life.
