Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dismissed cheaply on his India A debut against Sri Lanka in the tri-series opener in Dambulla on Tuesday.
He made 14 off 12 balls, which included three fours, before being caught off the bowling of Mohamed Shiraz.
The teenage batting prodigy has earned his maiden India call-up, being named in the T20I squad for the upcoming tour of England and Ireland.
Should he make his debut, the 15-year-old will become the youngest men’s international cricketer to represent India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who was 16 years and 205 days old when he debuted against Pakistan in 1989.
Sooryavanshi’s selection follows a remarkable IPL season with Rajasthan Royals. The left-hander amassed 776 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 237.30, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
His extraordinary campaign earned him the Most Valuable Player award, the Emerging Player honor and the Orange Cap. He also smashed a record 72 sixes, eclipsing Chris Gayle’s previous IPL benchmark of 59 set in 2012.
Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi starred in India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph, scoring 175 in the final against England.
