India Becomes Huge Market for iPhones, Apple Gets Record 28 Percent in Value Share

The demand for premium smartphones has increased rapidly in the country in the last few years. In the last year, the smartphone market has grown by one percent in terms of volume and eight percent in value year-on-year. American devices maker Apple’s value share in this market has increased to a record 28 percent.

It has been said in this report that Apple’s iPhone 16 series has received good response from customers. Apart from this, with financing options and trade-in offers, the company has achieved its highest share in terms of value in the smartphone market. iPhone 16 has been the best-selling smartphone in India last year.

In the premium smartphones (above Rs 30,000) category, almost two-thirds of purchases are made through financing. Apple plans to increase its presence in the country. The company has said that it will open a second store in Mumbai. In the earnings call for the first quarter of financial year 2026 Apple Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tim Cook had told that the company plans to open a second store in Mumbai. In December last year, the company started its second store in Noida in Delhi NCR. The company opened its first store in the country at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.

Cook said that the company has made a revenue record in the December quarter. Apple’s revenue in India has grown in double-digits. Apple also plans to open a corporate office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company has also increased its manufacturing in India. In the last few years, Apple has exported Made in India iPhones worth more than $50 billion. iPhones are assembled in the country in the factories of Apple’s contract manufacturers Foxconn and Tata Group’s Tata Electronics. Apple’s contract manufacturers have increased their manufacturing under the Central Government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. The company’s AirPods are also being manufactured in the country.
