Plotline of Telugu sports action drama, Peddi
The story of Peddi revolves around a young villager named ‘Peddi’ (played by Ram Charan) who is a sought-after cricketer. He is so good at cricket that teams from Vizianagaram and Bobbili compete to hire him, and they are ready to pay any amount for his services. However, it was ‘Gournaidu’ (played by Shiva Rajkumar) who offered ‘Peddi’ something bigger with kusthi. ‘Peddi’ grabs this opportunity and even risks alienating himself from his own people.

Soon, people began recognising ‘Peddi’ as ‘Peddi Pehelwan’. However, ‘Veerabhadra’, who had been a star athlete until ‘Peddi’ stepped into the world of wrestling, became jealous of him. The seasoned athlete, ‘Veerabhadra’, discovers ‘Peddi’s’ weakness and uses it against him. During the finals, the duo gets engaged in a tough fight and ‘Peddi’ suffers a serious injury. After the match, ‘Peddi’ is told by the doctors that the nerves in his leg are badly damaged and he can no longer compete as an athlete. However, ‘Peddi’ doesn’t lose his hope.

It is worth mentioning that the village where ‘Peddi’ resides doesn’t have a name and has no access to healthcare, schools, running water, or a train station. A man named ‘Appalasoori’ knocked on the doors of the government for years to be heard. ‘Peddi’ inherits the cause from ‘Appalasoori’. Initially, the people of his village thought that ‘Peddi’ was running after fame, but little did they know he was actually fighting for them.

When ‘Peddi’s’ sports career ended, he did not give up on his mission. He keeps trying to get government officials and authorities to listen to the problems of his people, but fails each time. This leaves him utterly disappointed. But just when he was losing hope and stepping back, ‘Peddi’ sees para-athletes competing in races. Soon he realises this would be a very good opportunity to make people pay attention to his village’s problems.

Will ‘Peddi’ win the 1996 Para Asian Games with his serious leg injury?
Since his leg was already badly damaged, ‘Peddi’ chose to have it amputated. He then begins training as a para-athlete and works extremely hard by using a prosthetic running blade. ‘Peddi’s’ hard work ultimately pays off, and he wins the 1996 Para Asian Games. However, winning the medal was never ‘Peddi’s’ motive. The main purpose of winning the tournament was to get a chance to speak for his own people and their problems.

After winning the 1996 Para Asian Games, ‘Peddi’ gave a powerful speech. ‘Peddi’ states that he cannot call himself an Indian as the place from where he hails doesn’t have a name. This strong speech from a gold medal-winning athlete made the system rethink, and ‘Peddi’s’ village got a name, Appalavalasa. The village was named after ‘Appalasoori’ to honour him for his sacrifices. The film ends with an Olympic committee member played by Boman Irani, who is inspired by ‘Peddi’s’ story, launching the Khelo India campaign.
