Vivo Maintains First Rank in Smartphone Market of India, Apple Leads in Premium Segment

The country’s smartphone market has remained almost flat last year. Total shipments in this market have been around 15.2 crore units. China’s Vivo holds the first position in this market. After this is South Korea’s Samsung. Apple has the highest share in the premium and mid-premium categories in this market. There has been a decline in the sales of China’s Xiaomi in this market.

Market research firm IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Tracker Report According to , the country’s smartphone market has grown by about 0.5 percent last year. After a slow start in this market, shipments picked up pace in the second quarter. However, shipments declined by nearly five percent to 34 million units in the fourth quarter of last year. The reason for this is adjustment in inventory after the festive season and weakness in demand. It has been said in this report that India has become the fourth largest market in the world for Apple. The company’s shipments in the country have increased by about 16 percent on year-on-year basis to about 1.4 crore units.

With about 9.5 percent share in India’s smartphone market. Apple Is in fifth place. Last year, Apple’s share in this market in terms of value was about 29 percent. High demand for iPhone 16 is a major reason behind the increase in company’s sales. Last year, the share of iPhone 16 in the total shipments of smartphones was about four percent.

Vivo has maintained its first rank in the smartphone market last year. The market share of this Chinese smartphone maker was 19.3 percent. It is followed by Samsung (14.1 percent) and Oppo (13.3 percent). Realme’s market share has declined to around 9.5 percent and it has secured the fourth position. The market share of OnePlus, Xiaomi and Poco has declined in the last year. Smartphone companies like Realme, Motorola and iQOO have benefited from this. This report states that the entry-level segment of smartphones (less than $ 100) has grown by about 18 percent on a year-on-year basis. Xiaomi and Vivo have a big stake in this segment. Motorola has achieved the highest growth in this segment.
