Social media company Meta has introduced new subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. Under this, ‘Plus’ versions of apps are being rolled out. Users taking this plan will get special tools and customization options. Money will have to be paid for this.
This move is part of Meta’s strategy to create a new source of revenue beyond advertising. The new Plus plans will not replace the company’s existing ‘Meta Verified’ plan.
Meta has just announced the rollout of these new ‘Plus’ subscription plans globally, but the company has not announced its launch date in India. Since India is the market with the world’s largest user base for Meta, the company usually rolls out any major features here in a phased manner.
What special will you get in Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus?
Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are primarily designed with social expression and creators in mind. In this, users will get the facility to see how many people have re-watched their story. Apart from these, you will also get these 5 benefits…
- Different lists of favorite people: Currently, you can create only one ‘Close Friends’ list. With the new feature, you will be able to create many different lists as per your wish and decide who should see which photo or video.
- Story will not be removed even after 24 hours: Right now the story gets deleted within 24 hours. Now you will be able to keep it on your profile for more than 24 hours. You will be able to ‘spotlight’ any of your stories once a week, so that more and more people can see it.
- Will be able to watch others’ stories secretly: You will see the other person’s story and he will not even know, because his name will not appear in the list of viewers. Apart from this, you will also be able to search the names of those who viewed your story.
- Profile updates without disturbing others: You can save any photo or video directly to your profile or highlights. For this, no notification or new post will go on your friends’ home page.

What will be special in WhatsApp Plus?

Two plans are also being tested for Meta AI users
- Meta One Plus: $7.99 (about Rs 770) per month.
- Meta One Premium: $19.99 (about Rs 1,900) per month.
Both have similar features, but the premium plan will unlock the ability to perform deeper reasoning and higher compute queries for difficult tasks. This will provide excellent video and image-generation facilities on Meta Apps. Meta AI will remain free for general users.
Expensive advance plans for creators and businesses
Two plans will be tested this week for creators and businesses:
- Meta One Essential ($14.99/mo – around ₹1,450): It will provide verified badge, protection from fake accounts and an enhanced linksheet. With this, users will be able to add links to all their social channels at one place.
- Meta One Advanced ($49.99/mo – around ₹4,800): Along with the benefits of Essential, you’ll get the ability to feature in Facebook feed, appear higher in search results, have a bold ‘Follow’ button on Reels, and automatically send follow invitations to people who engage.
This plan will help companies to increase traffic on their website or shop. It will provide access to deeper competitive insights such as analytics tools, optimized scheduling tools, and access to other moderators without sharing passwords.
Additionally, if another user re-uses their content, they will receive a notification so they can ask for a credit label to the original reel.
Why is the business model of social media changing?
For years, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were completely free because companies made billions from users’ data and ads. But now the number of users of these apps has reached its peak all over the world, which means the pace of getting new users has slowed down.
