Vijay Shankar joins Kandy Royals in Lanka Premier League after domestic retirement

Former India and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar has joined Lanka Premier League side Kandy Royals days after announcing his retirement from domestic and IPL cricket.

Shankar is the franchise’s fourth direct signing after Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Matthews, and Moeen Ali. A larger player draft will be held on June 1.

The 35-year-old played 12 ODIs and nine T20Is for India and last featured in national colors at the 2019 ODI World Cup.

He played 77 First-Class matches, scoring 4,253 runs and taking 43 wickets. He also featured in 78 IPL matches

Shankar follows a number of Indian cricketers who announced their domestic retirements to pursue playing opportunities overseas including Ambati Rayudu, Robin Uthappa, and Dinesh Karthik.
