Recently, during an appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop Podcast, Benny Blanco opened up about his wife, Selena’s ‘terrible’ diet. According to a report by OK Magazine, Selena is reportedly ‘seething’ over the comments made by her husband due to her past insecurities. Selena has been very vocal about her health issues, struggles with lupus, the kidney transplant she underwent for the lupus and the medications that cause her weight to fluctuate. An insider close to Selena told OK Magazine that she felt ‘blindsided.’ The insider was quoted as saying:
“Selena is seething over the comments made by Benny. She tried to avoid critics who had been dissecting her body, her health, and what she ate.”
What did Benny Blanco say about Selena Gomez’s diet?
Earlier, this month, in May 2026, Benny sat for a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow on her podcast, Goop Podcast. During the conversation, Benny opened up about his wife, Selena’s bad diet. Benny’s revelation left Gwyneth in complete shock. He mentioned that his wife, Selena, has a ‘diet of a 5-year-old’. According to him, Selena loves junk food like burgers and fries. He stated that the actress and singer prefers ‘whatever is bad for your diet.’ He added that Selena hates vegetables and fruits.
Inside Selena Gomez’s health struggles
Selena first went public about her health struggles in a 2015 interview with Billboard. During the conversation, Selena shared that she had been diagnosed with lupus in 2013. Due to this, she had to abruptly end her 2013 tour to check herself into a rehab centre to undergo treatment. She also had chemotherapy for the same. Selena added that she could have had a stroke due to lupus. The actress and singer revealed that at the time, she locked herself away from everything until she was confident and comfortable. She was quoted as saying:
“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke. I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
In a 2016 interview with People, Selena shared that she discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus. Later, in a 2017 Today interview with Savannah Guthrie, Selena mentioned how she kept working with her health struggles due to lupus. Selena said:
“I would get fevers, headaches. I would get fatigue. But I always just kept going. I kind of ignored it, to be honest. I don’t think I made the right decisions because I didn’t accept them. And that’s extremely selfish, and at the same time, really just unnecessary. I’m not really proud of that.”
In 2017, Selena had a kidney transplant to treat her lupus. It was Selena’s friend, Francia Raisa, who donated her kidney to Selena. Sharing the story on her Instagram handle, Selena wrote, “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much, sis.”
